The neck gapes because the top of the bodice (all of this is in my opinion, of course) is too wide. It's nicely flat on the dressform, but the neck strap isn't going to stay in that position on a real live cooking person. And then the neck will gape and that is annoying. I also have not been thrilled with the darts in the skirt and don't really understand their purpose in this apron. So I left them out.
I'll probably tweak the pattern when I make the next one, making the top of the bodice narrower and rethinking the skirt a little. I really like idea of this apron... just haven't been thrilled with the actuality of it. (Which I say shamefacedly as I gave a few away for Christmas.)

It is toile. And it is quilting cotton.
Does the Emmeline tie around the neck? My thrifted apron ties around the neck and the top part of the bodice (the neckline) has elastic so it doesn't gape...it fit's perfectly.
I love the fabric combination :)
I think by the directions it might tie - but I found the ties uncomfortable so I measured and just made the binding go around. But it doesn't have elastic in the neck - that would be an improvement I think - and another step which makes me want to make a different patter because it already seems to take awhile to make.
I love the combinations of fabrics you used on these!
I love it! I think it's very cute; I suppose it will fit different body types better than others.
