Books and Money

I spent part of yesterday afternoon and this morning boxing up some books I sold online. Not to individuals, but to some company who buys used books in good condition. I'm too lazy - or busy with other things - to want to stress myself over pricing, finding boxes for, packaging, and mailing - not to mention waiting to sell - books to individuals. But I found some sites yesterday that would pay me enough to part with books I am finished with.

And they pay postage. All I do is box them up and drop them off at the post office. Then they send me a check.

I did it last December with some old textbooks. I got $50. I wonder now if I could have gotten more if I'd first tried using Bookscouter.com where you can type in ISBNs and they list 31 sites with their quotes so you can go to the highest payer.

So now I have fewer books to find places for on the shelf. And I won't have to see those few titles I was sure I'd want to read and never did and now the books just mock me as a bad decision I made once. I kept my favorites and ones I like to flip through from time to time. Most of what I sold were knitting books, a couple of running books, and a religion book. Nothing fiction. And a few titles I tried they either didn't want or didn't offer enough for me to want to part with it.

I think I may have one more box of books in storage -not to mention all those math texts. Searching for big paying titles became a bit addictive. I wonder if they'll want any of those textbooks - and if I'll be willing to part with them.
