The last few weeks have been full of award ceremonies and grand accomplishments. The latest was Julia receiving her award for making all A's all year. After the ceremony she wanted to say hello to her teacher, and in doing so I learned that she was accepted as 1 of 4 script writers for the morning news at school next year - a position she had applied and interviewed for a few weeks ago. Her teacher also recommended her for the school's gifted program for next year... so she won't need to be tested and wait another year to get in.She was the only one in her class to get all A's, and one of 15 in her grade. I almost hate to admit that I really expected her to get A's - and probably didn't think of it as the accomplishment that it is until that night. Maybe I should change my attitude and be more wow-ed more often.
Holly got a reading award at her award ceremony. It was something to do with Accelerated Reader... I love that she loves to read. Still torn on the taking tests part to have her reading really count... but she was so excited to get the award and worked hard to get all the points to earn it.
Last weekend we were camping. Alan took right off with riding his bike. Up until then he'd only ridden downhill in the very short side yard. After the first hour or so at the campsite he'd figured out how to stop without jumping off and how to turn and go on and off the road. When he wasn't at the beach he was riding the bike.
But what else should I expect now that he's graduated from preschool. His class performance was great.
He sang and did the motions to the songs and walked up to receive his diploma like a pro. Then we had cake.

I am a huge fan of accelerated reader. I think whatever gets the kids interested and really "reading" for knowledge/understanding since they have to take a test, not just plagerizing a book report, I am all for it. It doesn't take the fun out of it at that age, give it a few years ;-)
