Saturday Morning - Memory Lane

On Saturday we spent the morning at the Civic Center. When I was growing up, kids loved to use the whale sculptures out front as slides. We'd get in trouble by the person at the front desk eventually. Now there are planter boxes guarding the sculptures and a semi-fence up to keep people off. The kids still wanted to climb on them.
Inside they were very interested in the pool where my brother and I spent all our mornings before school. The furniture in the lobby has been recovered, but is the same wood. Wow.

We went out and played on the playground for a little bit. Then we started walking the fitness trail. This hawk was in the creek and then swooped up to the tree. I guess the water must have less mercury now than in the 70's.

The kids had more fun running in the open spaces than playing on the playground equipment. They chased geese, climbed on rocks,

and rang the friendship bell. Over and over and over again.

Alan amused himself by jumping off the little bridge.

David even got in on the fun.

Then we stopped in the public library and checked out the children's room. It's much like it was. Including the child sized restrooms. The boys' restroom had a sign reading "This restroom is for boys only. Adult males may use the restroom in the Civic Center when the Mens' restroom is out of order." Ha. No sign like that on the girls'.

And then we went to Billy's for lunch. A deli where David and I used to eat a lot during high school. Exactly the same.
The kids liked it. By then I'd turned the camera over to Julia. She caught Noah pulling something out of his ear. I think it's Silly Putty.

We didn't go by my old house. But I think they got a sense of some of the places I spent time growing up. I enjoyed the morning immensely.
