Saturday at Home

It's a girls' Saturday at home.  I was hoping to be out about town having fun while Alan and Sean are off this weekend camping with the cub scouts.  But as I type, Jillian and Julia are napping and Holly's playing at a friend's house.  I've got plenty of chores to get up and do, as soon as I get a little relaxing done.

Julia stayed up til 1 am watching Disney channel sitcoms through the Roku box.  I should've known better than to assume that she'd fall asleep while watching or actually turn the tv off on her own.  So by noon she was ... hard to deal with.

Holly was entertaining Jillian with some dolls - the 7 dwarves.  She compared Julia to Grumpy Dwarf.  Which made Jillian giggle.  And Julia pout.  And demand an apology.  Loudly and repeatedly.

And then Julia turned her anger to me - because I didn't punish Holly for hurting Julia's feelings.

My feeling is that minor teasing between brothers and sisters is normal.  It teaches them how to deal with people in the world who are annoying at times.  And when teasing becomes something more, I step in.  But worse than Holly teasing Julia with the Grumpy dwarf was Julia's reaction to the teasing.  So instead of going shopping or to the library or out to lunch, we came home from my mom's house and did a few chores before Julia and I melted down, and Julia fell asleep.

Holly and I found directions in a magazine for making a paper fortune teller.  She got frustrated a few times trying to make one just perfectly, but eventually we got it.  And she took it off to find her friend.

And while the girls are home trying to deal with their hormones, Alan is off with the scouts, picking up trash...
playing frisbee,
and hiking.
