Busy Times

Lucky is staying with my mom for a few weeks.  Jillian made herself at home in his room.  Sometimes she even chews on his toys.
Sean made some stilts and my mom taught the kids how to walk on them.  That's me in the red pants.  Julia's in the jeans.
My brother and his kids came down for Jillian's birthday party.  I love Julia's and Noah's relationship.  She has loved his this much all her life.  It's something to see.
See?  And I dare say the feeling is mutual.
Sean's mom and stepdad and grandpa also came down for Jillian's birthday.  We spent a day down at the beach where Jillian just got right in the thick of whatever was going on.  Alan would dig a hole and she would sit in it.
We had some friends come over Saturday afternoon.  Our really good friends since high school times who are also living here came and brought their little ones.
Julia was a little bit upset that Jillian had a big party that was planned ahead of time.  So her dad cooked up a surprise party at the skating rink.  I was in charge of inviting kids.  I could have done a better job, but I invited my favorites I guess you could say.  And she was shocked and the party was fun.
That kicked off the weekend of birthday/Halloween fun.  We carved pumpkins finally on Sunday.  I had to hunt to find pumpkins.  I guess not everyone around here procrastinates holidays like I do.
Sean turned the kids loose on their pumpkins with the knives and he retreated to a bench to carve his own.  I didn't mind - I was just surprised he trusted them (Alan) so much.

And we had some costuming changes last minute.  Holly said for weeks she was going as a mad scientist.  Then as she watched Julia putting on Cleopatra makeup she decided she wanted to be something that used makeup.  I tried to convince her that a scientist could get dolled up.  She decided to go as a Zombie Waitress while we were eating dinner on Halloween night.
Alan's pumpkin face has a nost that is connected to his mouth just like a dog - that's his description.  Holly made hers with freckles.
And everyone carved a name or initial in theirs.
It's been a busy few weeks.  And now it's time to start thinking about Holly's birthday and Thanksgiving and Christmas.  Better take a big breath now I guess... time sure goes fast!

I sat with the kids and made sure they were using the knives right before I began my own. Alan needed a bit of guidence but did well. He did cut his hand but just a little. He told me only after. I was worried and watched every child.

Hahaha! Only you, Joanna, would have people learning to walk on stilts in your back yard! Jillian looks so big in the beach picture, all involved with what the big kids are doing.....slow down!
