Alan got a Nintendo DS for his birthday a few weeks ago. The girls were - upset - at his great fortune. But he will occasionally share and let them play it. Yesterday he took it with us to the grocery store.
It was the best trip to the grocery store with a child along that I have ever had.
He sat in the cart playing his game. He didn't insist on picking out apples or putting anything in the buggy. He didn't ask for fruit snacks or doughnuts or chocolate milk. He didn't beg for candy or run away at the checkout. He sat in the cart playing his game.
And I got to shop.
On one aisle we passed a couple - probably the age of Alan's grandparents. The woman said something to the man and then, "Come along now." To which he replied with just the right amount of shrug in his voice, "Yes, Dear."
Ha. I smiled. I couldn't help it.
And he saw me. He said that saying that always gets a smile from the women around him. And so I wondered what he really wanted to reply to her "come along now" instead of "yes, dear".

I can only imagine!
Too funny... and how great that you've found the secret weapon for successful, uneventful shopping (with child in tow). :) Hope he had a super-fun birthday!!! His gift is on its way...

I certainly am tired of accidentally duplicating my comments... actually, I'm just tired.
