Alan likes to talk...

Alan talks ALL THE TIME. I never noticed before. How horrible. I tune half of it out. Maybe I tune more than half out. He’s always talked a lot. He used to “sing” himself to sleep at night as an infant in the crib. He made a lot of noise for awhile, and then he was asleep. I don’t remember him babbling a lot. It’s almost as if he quietly inspected everything the girls did and then just joined their conversations one day. And he hasn’t shut up since.

I’m not sure what brought his talkative nature to my attention. Maybe it was hoping to have a few moments of silence in which to put a few thoughts together about how I felt about my grandmother. Or to write a letter. Or to fill out papers for the girls to get enrolled in school. Or maybe I overheard someone say their child talks a lot and I disagreed because they didn't talk nearly as much as Alan does.

At any rate, he talks a lot. And I’m sure that one day I will wish for the days when he used to talk to me all the time. And until then I’ll wish for the days when he’ll give me a few moments of peace and quiet.

That just seems to be the way of things.
