Julia's Riding a Horse

This was Holly at Julia's first horseback riding lesson. Oh. My. She was upset the whole time. I wasn't fair to give Julia the lessons AND let her have a birthday party and if it was in the budget for Julia it should be in the budget for Holly.

But this was how Julia felt about it.

And one of the dogs. Who also broke Holly's heart because he got up and left when she started to rub his belly.

We got a little comic relief from Alan for awhile toward the end...

And then Holly and Alan were offered a brush to help. Holly got to go first. I think she liked it, but she REALLY wanted to ride, not brush.

I don't know how to handle it all. I admitted to Holly that Julia got a better deal. I told her we can have a party with her friends - but it wouldn't be a birthday party. It was too busy a time around her birthday with Thanksgiving to have a party like we did for Julia. I told her it's not in the budget for them both to go every week, but maybe they could eventually alternate weeks. But that we won't do horses and soccer at the same time. I told her I'm working on figuring out the budget better so I know exactly what I can afford and that I'll see what I can do to work in some lessons when it's not soccer season for her. I can't do it all. And neither can she.
She asked if we could have a You-and-Me Day as well as a party. She seemed satisfied that the lessons could be a possibility in the future... and okay with keeping soccer as scheduled.
And that was that. But OH, I'm not sure Julia will be satisfied with just 4 lessons! Did you see her face?
