One of the hostesses fell off a step ladder before we arrived and she and her husband spent a good part of the afternoon getting 25 stitches in her shin. Yuck. Ouch. They did come back and I was amazed she didn't just want to sit and put her leg up.
Here's a look at one of the gifts we got - from the Bradleys, whose son turned one last month.
Alan thought the blob was a bird. Sean explained the joke to him. Now he thinks the blob is bird poop. Disturbingly cute.

Today was the first day of school for the kids. The girls gave Alan lots of pointers before we left.Everyone was all smiles before we started the mile walk. And even still in good moods when we got to the school. Traffic was backed up at least a quarter mile from the school and people were just parking wherever and walking the rest of the way.
As we left the house we could hear Alan's principal's voice on the loudspeaker at the school. It's really too bad there's not a direct route. It was about a 20 minute walk. Not bad... beats getting up to be at the bus stop at 6:25 am.

When the bus dropped them off it was raining and they didn't see me and I missed getting a picture. I think if I hadn't asked them to wait for me they would have just kept walking.
They all had great days. I got the least amount of information out of Alan - who said the first thing they did was eat lunch. He threw away all the plastic containers I'd used to pack his lunch - one even shaped like a sandwich. Maybe I should have given him some directions about lunch.

On a side note - there was a little girl who walked all the way down our street with us. At the end she said to me, "Ma'am, do you know where I'm at?" She'd gotten off at the wrong stop. She didn't know her house number or her phone number. Apparently she'd just moved to the neighborhood. I called the school and they contacted the mom who drove over and picked her up from the corner where the bus dropped her off. The mom was understandably upset. I think the little girl even spent an hour and a half on the bus this morning - went on the high school route. The mom didn't think the school was concerned enough about what happened. The little girl kept insisting the bus driver told her to get off... I heard someone asking "little girl do you know where you're going?" but I'm not sure who it was. I thought it was the driver.
Scary.
It made me even more thankful that my 3 have each other. I can't imagine what she'd have done if we hadn't been walking down the street at the same time.
That's enough excitement for one day. I'm pooped.
