Julia, Tamed

Holly has requested outfits.  Clothes that go together.  Her color blocking style has gotten remarks on her color coordination from classmates.  Personally, I like Holly's style.

Julia has given Holly tips on handling the remarks.  One may assume she's gotten a few remarks of her own.  And she handles them with grace.  "Thank you!" I believe is her standard reply.

My stepdad, Mike, had a very laid back attitude on many things.  And his answer to my questions about what I should wear was consistently "wear what you feel comfortable in".  I suppose that could be taken to mean a few things - like, to wear whatever feels comfortable.  Or if you are more comfortable looking like everyone else, then dress like they do.  Or to just wear whatever you want to wear.  Or what you think looks good.

I repeat those words to the girls.  Even when Julia is dressed as she is in the picture above.

Today was field trip day for her.  She wore a tie-dye shirt that matched everyone else in her class.  She put on arm warmers and a scarf tied on her head.  She was a sight.

But what should I do?

I'm glad she has the courage to step outside the box.  I'm glad she's confident enough to dress like that, even if I wouldn't have put the outfit together myself.

And besides, it makes me think of Mike and smile.

It's never as bad as you make it sound. But maybe I think of Mike's choices too. I hid a few sometimes but it never did any good. Those socks crack me up!!!
