God is Good... or So Much for Paris!

I was contemplating a post this morning to announce Oliver's deployment to Qatar for the next year.

A few weeks ago he called to say his name was on a list and it looked like he'd be leaving in the middle of the summer, although the paperwork wasn't done and it wasn't official.  It looked more and more official as time went on, though there was still no paperwork.  He did have a date to leave and dates for some prep training.  We altered the summer schedule a little.  He told the kids about the trip during their last visit.

Julia called me crying as I left town to meet them that Saturday.

And on the ride back to South Carolina she told us that Daddy told her maybe they could go to Paris when he got back - you know how she's ALWAYS wanted to go to Paris?

Oliver and Alan were going to have a father/son week later in the summer, and we tried to switch it to next week while Julia's at camp.  But with his deployment coming quickly and still a lot to do, Oliver told Alan he wasn't going to be able to do the special week with him.

I don't know how Alan took it, but it made me so sad.  And in the last few days I've said a lot of prayers -

This afternoon Oliver sent a message saying the deployment was off.

HOORAY!!

I know three little kids who are jumping for joy tonight.
God is so good.
But so much for Paris!
