Julia and I made spritz before the others and I made the chocolate cookies with peppermints. My first batch of dough was too dry for the press. It lead to a lot of angst and ire on my part. We ended up making a new batch of butter dough and a new batch of chocolate dough which we rolled in sprinkles instead of powdered sugar. They were delicious - but the spritz still didn't want to stick to the pan and it gave me even more angst and ire. We ended up making a semi-shortbread with the dough that was slightly dry a few days afterward... I couldn't bring myself to throw it out.
According to Grandma Sarah, we needed to chill our metal cookie sheet to help the dough stick. And the batch I made using that trick worked fabulously. So much for my parchment paper and baking stone.
Lucky for me, Julia still had fun with me. Regardless of the angst and ire.
