Adding to the List

This morning at Target Alan broke a lamp.

That's been my fear - aside from him running off at the store - is breaking something. I remember swinging my purse in French's Grocery store when I was probably about his age and breaking a bottle of apple juice. I think my mom had to pay for the juice. I didn't have to pay for the lamp. The worker who came to see what happened did tell me I should "probably take him away from the glass so he doesn't get cut" - duh. He was wearing sandals and very embarassed and the worker thought he might be cut because of the way he wouldn't move. We walked off without a new lamp for the girls' room and let them clean up the broken glass. I think I might avoid Target for awhile, too. But I'm surprised that Alan was more embarassed than I was.

Breaking something in the store goes on the list of things I thought were horrible - like forgetting to pack underwear and socks and a toothbrush when you go on a trip. Now I've done them all, and none is really a big deal. Maybe Life isn't so hard afterall.

Salem hasn't broken anything in a store (yet!), but I can see it one happening one day in our future!

Did you get upset with him, or how did you handle the situation?
