Check One

I finished the hat. It was too small for Sean - didn't cover his ears. But Alan likes it.I used just over 1 skein of 1824 wool to make it. I really expected it to be bigger. Maybe if I had started the hat without such a long leftover tail after I cast on... or if there had been fewer than the 2 knots/bad spots in the yarn... At any rate, I have another skein ready to go.

I made a new recipe for bread. My dad emailed me one very similar to the one Jen put in the comments (thanks, Jen!). Dad's recipe used a little less butter and more honey, and more flour. Mostly I think because it made 3 loaves. But after making it, I think my other recipe could have been divided into 3 loaves instead of 2. My original recipe used 2 eggs. And while it was good, and I liked the way it turned out, I like even more not needing to use any eggs for Dad's or Jen's. So I used this recipe - using only 1/3 cup honey even though it seems to tell you to add 1/3 two times, and I pretty much split the flour evenly with white and whole wheat. Next time I'm trying Jen's with all whole wheat.
It turned out nicely. I did forget to take the bread out of the pans immediately. But remembered after about 5 minutes. And I did rub the tops with butter... but might not next time. Don't know that it added much.

The kids say they like this one even better than the last. All in all, every loaf so far has turned out better than I expected as far as slice-ability. That's the one thing that has held me back from trying bread baking sooner. I'm feeling more capable now.
