Raining and Pouring

My computer quit working last week.

The battery had been dead for a long time... it had to be plugged in to work. It crashed completely a couple of years ago and was brought back from the dead. It was otherwise slow, even though I tweaked with it a little and thought I'd made it better. The kids were always frustrated with it when they wanted to play games online... or wait for it to boot up.

Now it shows no life at all when plugged in. Nothing happens when I push the power button.

And I'm considering replacing it with a netbook. Most of what I do on the computer is on the internet. That and putting pictures from my camera to a flash drive (I always want to say dork stick and rarely anyone knows what I'm talking about). It'd be much cheaper. Probably serve all the purposes I want it to serve...

Anybody have an opinion for me?

The CRV had the air conditioner go out a few weeks ago. An expensive repair for a new compressor just as the weather is going to start cooling off. As I left the place the mechanic told me my front tires would need replacing soon. I knew that one was coming, but when someone else notices... I guess that makes the computer the 3rd thing and I should be good for a few years now. Right?

It has been nice to be able to just say that the computer is broken when one of the kids wants to play on it and I'd rather they do something else.

But it hasn't been nice to not be able to research knitting patterns or techniques or read the blogs I love or see what's happening on facebook just whenever I wanted to...

Why do expenses have to come in clusters?!

We have a Dell netbook since most of what we do is surf the web and photos too. Ben thinks it is slow, but it never bothered me. I like how small it is and light weight, especially when I am cooking a recipe from the web. It takes up little space in the kitchen. Acre is supposed to be a good brand as they were the pioneers of the netbook concept. Things to look for - some have limited memory and short battery life. We got one with more memory and a 6 hour battery. Since there is no disc drive, the 6 hour battery is pretty accurate. Good luck!

Thanks Andrea! Since the battery on my laptop was dead I usually tried to plug it in in the kitchen when I used it for a recipe, but usually ended up going back into the living room about 20 times and trying to remember what I was doing! I don't think any netbook could be slower than that computer, too.
