Pants
I made some wool pants for Jillian. I used a semi-pattern I found online through Google Books. I made those soakers awhile back - and have used one, which worked well but likely would have worked better if I'd lanolized it before I used it - and I wanted to make pants. I also didn't want to pay for a pattern because in my mind there must be just a basic way to construct pants and it seems wrong to have to purchase the knowledge. So I googled something like 'knit pants pattern' in Google Books and hoped to come up with an old book that would give me a basic pattern for free.
Lucky me.
I found directions by Elizabeth Zimmerman - who I've learned since writes patterns in the 'pinch of this bit of that' style. It was something like - cast on for waist according to gauge, do some short rows, increase fore and aft every 3 rows awhile, knit straight until reach correct crotch length... But even with those loose directions, I ended up with pants that fit. Now once I lanolize them I'll see if they work as soaker pants (in cloth diaper lingo, "longies").
And I move on to my next new project - a mini cardigan for her.
